New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India has temporarily shut down a vital feature which allows you to alter the address of your Aadhaar card's address, without identity proof.

UIDAI permits people with Aadhaar cards to change their address, without any paperwork. Aadhaar cardholders can change their address as long as they consent to the authentication of the address verifier. An address verifier could be a family member, friend landlord, family member or even a friend that will allow the Aadhaar card owner to verify their address.

UIDAI has now halted this facility. UIDAI responds to an Aadhaar Card Holder by tweeting that the option to update address on Aadhaar Card by submitting an Address Validation Letter is no longer available. UIDAI has requested the Aadhaar issuer to remind users that they are able to change their address by using another legitimate PoA document.

Dear Resident Attention: The address Validation Letter service has been taken off until further notice. Kindly request your address update using another valid PoA document from the list https://t.co/BeqUA0pkqL
